The course is structured around 5 units:

Unit 1: Healthy Practices in Early Childhood Programs

This unit outlines the appropriate healthy practices that must be followed in early childhood centers to implement health and hygiene in the learning environment to promote well-being and prevent illnesses.

 

Unit 2: Safety in Early Childhood Program Environment

This unit will teach you how to protect children, families, and staff from harm. You will learn about toys and materials, environments, supervision, safety in supporting children in physical care routines, trips away from the program, and vehicle safety to prevent accidents/injuries.

 

Unit 3: Emergency Preparedness in Childhood Centers

This unit provides information and resources to effectively plan for emergency situations. You will learn how to respond in an emergency, how to deal with children after the shock, understand policy and procedures for fire drills, earthquakes, terrorism, missing children, abuse and severe weather conditions, evacuation procedures for the different age groups of children, items in different emergency kits for your setting and how to empower children to get involved in the restoration process.

 

Unit 4: Learning Environments for Early Childhood Programs

This unit will teach you how to create a secure, interesting, and enjoyable environment that promotes engagement, play, exploration, and learning for all children. You will learn to design the indoor areas of the setting by selecting appropriate materials to offer children a variety of choices that reflect children’s families, cultures, abilities, and interests.

 

Unit 5: Nutrition in the Early Years

This unit is designed to help you to understand the value of healthier eating and plan healthier menus in your Early Years setting. You will learn Introduction to Nutrition, what a healthy and balanced diet contains, and supporting staff and parents to be healthier.

This program is designed for those working with young children as; support assistants, administrators, cleaners, nannies, child-minders. It is also suitable for parents, baby-sitters and all adults who have children under their care.

You have 1 month or 30 days to complete this program. Guided learning hours are set at 30, this is based on the average amount of time taken to achieve this qualification, over an average completion period of a month.

  1. Learners must be at least 18 years of age and a minimum high school certificate.
  2. Learners must have an appropriate level of reading, writing, and communication skills.
  3. Learners must be able to surf the internet, send and receive emails and complete work using a computer.

In order to achieve this certificate, the learner must complete the following:

  • 1. Quiz: Learner will complete a quiz consisting of multiple-choice questions.
  • 2. Workbook: Learner will also receive a workbook that includes written assignments, reflective activities.

*Please note that learner must achieve a minimum of 70% score to pass this unit.
